Please inform your Center Director about any allergy your child may have so that we can take the right precautions to protect his or her health. Building Block’s Allergy Information and Emergency Health Care Plan form must be completed prior to initial start day.

We will keep you informed of any instance of contagious disease affecting children who may have had direct exposure at the Center, and we will immediately report such diseases to the local health authorities. From time to time, we will also distribute educational literature about children’s health issues. If a child is absent because of a contagious disease, he or she may not return to Building Blocks without a physician’s written statement indicating that the child is no longer contagious and is able to participate in activities.

We want to help teach your child valuable personal skills. That’s why we require hand washing before eating, after bathroom visits and at any other appropriate time.

To make sure illness does not spread; sick children (with diarrhea or fever, for example) may not be brought to the Center. When you keep your child at home, please notify your Center Director. If your child becomes ill while at Building Blocks, and we feel that it would be better for your child to be at home rather than in contact with other children, we will call you and may ask you to pick him or her up. In the event of any serious accident or illness, an ambulance may be called. To ensure your child’s safety, we keep a file of names, addresses and phone numbers of only those people you have authorized to pick up your child. In addition, we also ask you to supply names and phone numbers of your family doctor and preferred hospital.

In the interest of your child’s health (and that of all the children at the Center), you must submit your child’s current medical and immunization records prior to enrollment. These records must be updated in accordance with state law.

Every child who reaches the age of four by September 1st of each year will need to produce documentation that a hearing and vision screening test has been done. This needs to be in the child’s file within 120 days of admission into the Center.

The Centers for Disease Control (CDC) has released recommended guidelines for vaccinating young children. Building Blocks and the American Academy of Pediatrics strongly support the program and urge you to follow these guidelines. We also follow state immunization regulations and recommend consulting your family doctor concerning medical matters.

TB testing is required of all Building Blocks’ employees. All children enrolling in Centers located in the Tarrant County Region will also be required to have a TB test conducted. All employees and children have to be free of any active TB.

To make sure we administer medicine in a safe, healthy manner, we will only administer dated, labeled, prescribed medication or authorized over-the-counter medications.   Over-the-counter medications will only be administered in accordance with the labeled instructions unless otherwise authorized in writing by a licensed physician. You must complete a Medication Authorization form for each day/week your child needs medication. Please give this form and the medication to your Center Director. All of our medication policies meet or exceed state regulations. If your physician recommends changes, we will work with you to accommodate your child’s needs.

In the event of a medical emergency, the Center will make every attempt to contact the child’s parent or a designated contact person. We will administer first aid, if necessary. If the parent cannot be reached or if it is deemed that additional medical care is needed, the Director or designated representative will call 911.
