Each morning, when you bring your child in, we require you to sign in on our roster. Also, you must personally take your child to the teacher in the classroom. We will release your child only to parents or guardians with legal custody or persons over the age of 18 who are designated by you on the Registration Information form. Every person who enters our Center is required to sign in. When you return to pick up your child, we ask you to sign out. Adults other than parents will be required to show proper ID.
If you come to pick up your child later than closing time, we charge a late fee. If you are more than 30 minutes late and we are unable to reach your emergency contact, your Center Director or designated representative may call Child Protective Services.
To ensure that Building Blocks is in compliance with any court orders pertaining to the custody of your child, we require a certified copy of a custody order. We keep this information confidential and solely for the safety and well being of your child. If a new custody order is issued or if a restraining order has been issued against either parent, we will also need to have this information on file. It is Building Blocks’ policy to remain neutral in all custody matters, and the Center may not serve as a visitation site.

Each classroom and playground area is video monitored by a qualified member of our staff. A digital copy is maintained for 30 days for the protection and safety of your child. If there is an accident or incident you wish to view, please let the Director know as soon as possible and arrangements will be made to watch the video in private.

We take every precaution to make sure your child is safe. This includes a safety awareness program for employees and children, as well as frequent inspections and maintenance of our building, playgrounds and equipment. But because children will be children, accidents may happen. When they do occur and we feel medical attention is needed, we will call you or your designated contact.

To prepare for fire, severe weather or disaster evacuation, we have regular drills and practices so your child can react in a safe and orderly manner. If an actual emergency requires evacuation of our Center, we will notify you as soon as the children are safe. Closings due to severe weather will be announced on a local television station. Building Blocks follows the local schools in the area and the Independent School District when it comes to delays and closings. Check with your Center Director for the designated station.
Building Blocks has licensed and insured vehicles to transport children to and from school and on Building Blocks sponsored field trips. Children are eligible to ride Building Blocks vehicles if prior authorization has been provided by the parent or guardian. If your child regularly rides one of our vans or buses, you must notify us ahead of time with a written release if he or she will not be riding on a specific day.
Children who, regardless of age, weigh less than 40 pounds must ride in a car seat that meets Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards. It is the responsibility of the parent or guardian to provide the Center with a car seat that meets these standards.
Building Blocks cannot be held responsible for transportation of children outside of Center-sponsored programs. This is the responsibility of the parent or guardian. Finally, Building Blocks staff is prohibited from transporting children in their private vehicles during regular Center hours or Center-based field trips.
